REVIVING PASSIONS

Sometimes, taking a break from your usual routine can help free your creative spirit. Recently I’ve found myself in a bit of a writing rut, where I hardly found myself writing or even thinking creatively. I stuck to the same habit day in and day out, but after stepping back from that, things changed. If you also feel stuck, maybe try taking a step back from things. In an attempt to free my mind, I tried getting back into some old hobbies. I forced myself to try to sit down and reread an old series and in doing so, I awakened my old passion for writing. I found myself at least trying to make time to write, more than I had in the last few months.

If you're feeling the same way, try to think of what made you enjoy writing in the first place. If you aren't a writer; say you're into art, what made you get into art? Maybe try to recreate an old art piece to remind yourself of the progress you've made, or visit other works that have once inspired you. If all else fails, you could also try new things altogether. Try to find new writing activities or subjects, or try a new form of art. Look from different perspectives, find new places to hone your craft, try to step outside of your comfort zone even. Maybe spending a day with your family could clear your thoughts, or a day spent with friends. Different things work with different people, but obsessing over something never helps anything. This will only further your potential block; so try something new, something different, or take a break.

If all else fails, maybe your break is deserved. I remember a time where I wanted so desperately to keep writing, that I forced myself. By doing this, I only further burned myself out. Sometimes you have to step away from a hobby for a little while, to give yourself a break. In these cases you could try to step away from it all; take up walking, meditation, or even try a new skill like cooking or working out. Sometimes if you indulge in other things, it'll free up the ideas.

In my case, I just needed to put in a little effort. My schedule had been rather busy lately, but after finding some time to revisit my passion, I'm starting to get back into writing. Sometimes however in the past, you also have to take a break from your passions. You have to find a balance between the two, as difficult as that may seem. Regardless of what your schedule may be like if you're passionate about something you should try to make time for it. Sometimes that's easier said than done but when you feel that passion, you'll know it's worth it. Sometimes you have to take a break to find your passion again, or other times you might need to step away from your passion, to help rekindle the flame. Never run yourself dry; but never give up what you're into, either.
